This catalogue was prepared for the occasion of the exhibition Frequency held at the Studio Museum in Harlem November 9, 2005 - March 12, 2006. The
exhibition, a survey of new work in two and three dimensions, was a groundbreaking collaborative experiment in sound and featured seven DJs spinning simultaneously in symphonic orchestration. Described at the time by the director/curator Thelma Golden as
“a snapshot of the current moment we live in, featuring artists exploring a range of ideas in a wide variety of media”, the exhibition featured work by 35 artists including Michael Britto, Nyame Brown, Johnathon Calm, Nick Cave, Zoe Charlton, Mike Cloud, Isaac Diggs, Kianga Ford, Rashawn Griffin, Leslie Hewitt, Wayne Hodge, Sedrick Huckaby, Kalup Linzy, Nzuji De Magalhaes, Rodney McMillan, Lester Merriweather, Wardell Milan, Demetrius Oliver, Karyn Oliver, Adam Pendleton, Jefferon Pinder, Robert Pruitt, Michael Queenland, Marc Robinson, Xaviera Simmons, Kwabena Slaughter, Shinique Smith, Jeff Sonhouse, Hank Thomas, Mickalene Thomas, Jina Valentine, William Villalongo, Roberto Visani and Paula Wilson.
