“Converging Points”

“The simplification of form and function lies in the use of iconic imagery, such as the mule and plow, as reference in order to better explore the complexity of Black identity in a post-modern era. Beyond the surface, I focus on a 42-year period marked by Martin Luther King’s ‘I Have a Dream’ speech in 1963 demanding justice and equality of opportunity.
In this body of work I incorporate a diptych format to project the binary elements of past and present, grounding contemporary expectations of how things are and could be within the changes occurring in the Black community over the last half century. The opulence highlighted in this work is not an elusive fantasy reserved only for the privileged, but an obtainable reality for all.”
