MarianneB van der Haar was born in northern Germany and lived most of her younger years in The Netherlands.  In the early 1980’s she spent four years in Tanzania in east Africa, before returning to The Netherlands once again for a career in interior design. In 1993 she moved to Atlanta in the United States, where she started painting in 1995 while taking a sabbatical from interior design.

“I picked up the paints and my future just came to me and exploded,” explains MarianneB about her vivid, bold artwork.  Over the years, her supply cabinet has expanded to include other materials such as ink, sand, copper powder, marble powder, firewood ashes and textiles.  By bringing layers on layers of acrylic paint and these variable materials together, each piece of art becomes its own unique amalgamation.

To satisfy her creative needs, she throws out formal rules and discovers new ways of bringing the soft creamy paint on the canvas.  “Every time I work with my tools of choice - plastic cards, my fingers, scrapers, pallet knives - the result is always a unique and pleasant surprise.”

Her styles range from pure abstract to human and nature inspired art pieces.  The abstract works are evocations of emotions, energy and visions.  The flower and figure paintings are a more concrete vision of what she sees, senses, and feels in the world, in the environment and in the seasons of the year.  She often paints while listening to music and enjoying a cup of coffee or a glass of wine.
