Milton George
Milton George was born in 1939 in Manchester, Jamaica and currently lives and works in St. Catherine, Jamaica. He attended the Jamaica School of Art part time, but is still essentially self-taught. He is generally regarded as one of the most important living Jamaican artists. He has exhibited extensively in Jamaica, the USA, Latin America, and Europe since 1969. Too numerous to list here, his exhibitions include “Generations of Jamaican Art”, Montreal, Canada, 1969; “Three Decades of Jamaican Painting”, Commonwealth Institute, London, England, 1971; Annual National Exhibition, National Gallery of Jamaica, Kingston, Jamaica, 1977-03; The artist has been featured in a number of publications including “Modern Jamaican Art”, Ian Randle Publishers; “Redemption Songs: The Self-Taught Artists of Jamaica”, Diggs Gallery Publication; “Revue Noire” magazine; and “Art Today”, Phaidon Press.
