Jonathan Green

Jonathan Green’s art is a strong narrative depiction of everyday life where human values of work, love and belonging stand above all. Green was born in 1955 in Gardens Corner, South Carolina, the second of seven children. His early life experiences, growing up in the culturally rich Gullah environment of the Atlantic Sea Island, are the subject of much of the reflection in his work. His mastery and use of vivid colors and adroitly drawn human forms enhance the power of his narrative.

After a stint in the Air Force Green went on to study textile design and illustration. Encouraged by his instructors, he entered the prestigious School of the Art Institute of Chicago from which he graguated with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Art. He has travelled extensively and pursued independent studies in Europe, the United States and Mexico.

Green’s work has been included in a number of literary, fine art and academic publications. He has already garnered a number of awards and honors in his relatively young career and is sought after by collectors for public and private collections. He has exhibited in over twenty solo gallery and museum exhibitions as well as a number of group shows.
